From the time the stone is formed in the earth to the journey it takes to be extracted, moulded and finished to create the desired surface and then cut to suit the selected interior, it is a time-consuming and highly detailed process.
Stone quarrying is a multistage process by which rock is extracted from the ground and cut into the required sizes to be used commercially or in homes. At the quarry engineers will profile the surface, then design the blasting process and plot the rock to be extracted. After blasting, secondary cutting will be done subsequently using hydraulic diggers and other equipment. The cutting can go up to three or four stages, primary (first stage), secondary (second stage), tertiary (third stage) and, in some quarries, a quaternary (fourth stage). The cut rocks are transported along the process line on conveyor belts or down chutes. These are then sent to the factories for further processing into the desired slabs or tiles.
